PAST EVENTS:
We held a safety program in honor of Chip Block, a local instructor who was blind, who was hit and killed while crossing an intersection in Kansas City, the Fall of 2011. It was held Saturday, October 29th at the Alphapointe Association for the Blind, at 75th and Prospect, KCMO. Thank you to the City of Kansas City's Public Works Department and The Whole Person for your participation!
NEWS
AWB provided a scholarships for Penn Valley Community College Student, Angela Fisher, in honor of Chip Block. The scholarships was for the Winter 2012 semester. Angela has since joined AWB!
Fire Safety for the Blind and Visually Challenged
Monday, November 8th from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the Alphapointe Association for the Blind, 75th and Prospect (71 Highway and the 75th Street exit).
Holiday Gift-Giving Program 2010. We will collect gifts for the families of Veterans who are Blind. The first Gift-Drive will be during our fire safety program. Contact us for more information on how to donate gifts: 816.372.0939, Tracey Hawkins.
2010 Holiday Adopted Families...
In honor of the Holidays and our Veteran's, in 2010, AWB adopted two families of veterans who are blind.
The Fire Safety Program in November 2011 was a success! First Alert Talking Smoke/CO Alarms were distributed free to attendees.
American Royal Parade- Float. (Summer 2008)
Concert and Dinner- "Out of Sight"- Live variety music by Out of Sight; (all band members are blind or legally blind) and dancing at Union Station's Arthur Stillwell Room. Hors d'oeuvres and cash bar. Fundraiser for our programs for the blind and the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired. (Fall 2008)
